Glow and Go Guide: The Art of the Lettuce

Okay, confession time: I’ve never been a huge lettuce fanatic. It’s always just… been there. In burgers, under other ingredients, looking pretty on the plate but not really stealing the show.

But then came pregnancy and out of nowhere, I was craving grilled chicken and lettuce. I know, right? So random. So healthy. And so not like me. Lettuce had never been one of my go-to veggies, but during those months, it became this strangely satisfying comfort food. Crisp, fresh, and grounding especially when everything else made me feel unsettled.

And just to keep it real yes, lettuce was a craving. But so were cheesy toast and late-night bowls of ice cream. So no, I wasn’t suddenly a health goddess I was just doing my best, and sometimes that looked like a pile of greens… and sometimes it looked like melty cheese and a spoon.

Why Lettuce Deserve a Spot on Your Plate

Lettuce may seem like a minimalist, but it’s quietly doing the most for your glow.

  • Ultra-hydrating: Over 90% water, hello skin support and natural detox

  • Rich in folate & vitamin K: Great for cellular repair and bone health

  • Supports digestion: Especially varieties like romaine and butter lettuce

  • Low-cal, high-volume: Perfect for those big, satisfying bowls that leave you full without feeling heavy

Bonus: the deeper the green, the more nutrients you’re getting. Romaine and loose-leaf lettuces are nutrient-rich champions.

How to Store Lettuce (So It Actually Lasts)

  • Whole heads: Wrap loosely in a clean tea towel or paper towel and keep in a breathable bag or container in the fridge.

  • Washed leaves: Dry well (salad spinner = your best friend), layer with paper towel in an airtight container.

  • Avoid excess moisture, it’s what turns those edges soggy and sad.

Pro tip: If your lettuce is starting to wilt, soak it in ice-cold water for 10–15 minutes to crisp it back up!

Coocking and Prepatation Options

Glow & Go Ideas:

  • Raw & crispy: Obviously perfect in salads, but also amazing as wraps for taco night or rice paper rolls.

  • Sautéed: Some lettuces like little gem or butterhead taste amazing gently wilted in a pan with garlic and broth.

  • Juiced: Add a handful to green juices for a mild, hydrating base.

  • Soup topper: Add chopped lettuce at the end of cooking light soups for added texture and nutrients.
